Matthew 13- Farmer Jesus

Matthew 13

I'm sorry I passed this chapter up.  I read several chapters and then broke them up into consumable bites and ended up leaving this one out.

The basic premise of this chapter is that Jesus preferred to speak in parables to illustrate his lessons.
He also seems to like seeds.  Perhaps if he lived inland he would have been a farmer instead of a carpenter/savior.

I/We WILL be cast into flames!!!

13:41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
13:42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

I didn't think a fiery hell was actually mentioned in the Bible until Revelations.

So, did Jesus have brothers and sisters or is that how they referred to his friends and followers?

We finish with people in the synagogue (the priests I assume) not being to happy with Jesus teaching these new fangled ideas to the masses.  They still think a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

  1. Ahhhh....the brother sister question...Grace Fellowship near Atlanta Georgia teaches that Mary and Joseph made plenty of babies so those would be his blood bro and sis according to Grace Fellowship.

    But its mainly your brother and sister in Christ.
    Which is why I never understood why some Christian denominations try to convert other practicing Christians. We're all in the same boat! Or we all live in the same high rise, I just prefer to live on the catholic floor.

    43 is also important...anyone ready to jump on board the Jesus train yet? First stop, Matthew

  2. Nazareth is inland and given the manpower needed to raise and harvest crops, he probably had direct experience (e.g., as an extra laborer during the height of the harvest season). Jesus also is not described as a carpenter here but as a carpenter's son (in Mark he is described as a carpenter). The word translated to 'carpenter' is 'tekton' which actually has a broader meaning of builder (work that would include carpentry, masonry, etc.).
