Book of Ezra 6-10

Ezra 6-10

A first person account!!!  I think this is a first for the Bible.  For me, it adds a feel of historical truthiness.

We learn more about the return to Jerusalem.  Ezra reports on a group of men trying to get back to the good old days (of God not killing them) and their efforts to follow the laws of Moses and practices of Aaron.

Strange wives could be a deal breaker so Ezra tells the men to send the unfit wives and children off to (die in the desert?).

This book seems to be written like an actual historical account.  I think it's because God, the LORD has no presence in it except for a people trying to get back on the good side of an absent deity.

What do you think?

  1. Ezr 7:27 Blessed [be] the LORD God of our fathers, which hath put [such a thing] as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which [is] in Jerusalem:

This is very meta. I like that there thanking God for having the king thank God. I think the director's cut goes on to thank God for allowing them to thank God for having the king thank God.

If God is the one having the king do this, it makes me confused about free will. He's hardened hearts of soldiers so they'll fight to their death and also has a king honor Him. Aren't those the choices we're supposed to be making to see if we're worthy?

  2. I wanna know more about the strange wives ... it sounds like there was some non-violent ethnic cleansing going on.

  3. How is it non-violent to send the wives and kids off to die or whatever in the desert? Too bad they didn't think if it in the first place before they took the strange wives. Sucks that they get to suffer...and notice it doesn't say anything about what happens to strange husbands...
