Beaten to Death in the Name of God

Regardless of your beliefs, this should make you sick to your stomach.  Hell should exist just so these sick fucks can spend eternity suffering for what they did because of their twisted belief.

I know that 99.9% of Christians would never consider this anything but horrifying and repugnant, but that someone can interput the same Bible that we are reading right now makes me (again) question how anyone can believe that a god that cared about us would allow this to happen to an innocent child.

The sad fact is there are sick people that do sick things, no gods or devils needed.

PZ Myers got it right when he said;

Christianity says obey. Christianity says submit. Christianity worships authority. Women and children are to submit to the will of the father of the family, just as he is to submit to the grand phantasmal patriarch. Christianity is about never questioning; about not thinking critically; about worshipping; about accepting holy writ. It is about knitting elaborate straitjackets for the mind, cheerfully putting them on yourself, and then making sure your children are burdened with the same restraints, all in the name of perpetuating a hateful and limited ideology.
Yes, the Pearls are extremists who cinch the straitjacket more tightly and more brutally than most, and I do not regard most Christians as even endorsing the evil they promote (although, with over 650,000 copies of their book sold, the Pearls’ ideas are apparently a rather popular subset of Christianity) — but still, this isn’t an aberration, a wild notion grafted onto a benevolent faith. It’s part of faith itself, that people are raised to value belief in and obedience to the holy strong man.
Your children are not your followers or your servants or slavish little echoes of yourself. They are your responsibility, and your job is to raise them to be free and independent and, most of all, to be themselves. We are not sinners in the hands of a <insert random adjective here> god, and this whole idea that there is a hierarchical chain of authority is demeaning and destructive. We are fractious and creative and unique and wild and interesting, and when you force children into this restrictive mold of subservience, you diminish their humanity.
And sometimes you snuff it right out.

  2. @Bruce,

Yes you are correct what those people did was wrong. I don't think they should be sent to prison, but to sparky. I hope you will understand what i'm saying.

    Another thing
    Christianity is about never questioning
Really man? Is this the best you can come up with to assist you in your bashing of Christianity? :-) This is so laughable. I do observe that "atheists" are trained to not think, or, i say, trained on what to think.

Bruce that a god that cared about us would allow this to happen to an innocent child.

You want to tell me what things God should stop and why? Remember don't violate man's free will. You really come across as wanting it both ways. You have said how in the Old Testament books that we have read Most of the Bible that we've read so far is violent, vengeful and often leaves me wondering why people would willing follow a jealous, demanding god.

And now you get all upset that He let's things like this happen. So really Bruce which way do you want it? God dealing with the wicked by killing them, and is this before or after the event? Because if it's before, seeing He would be the only one that would know what was going to happen, then you and i would say why? Not knowing the future, we would think that God was just a violent, vengeful Being right? Or after the event, then we would question why He allowed it to happen. If before we would have to trust Him on what He has done, if after i know that good will come out of it.

So saying Christians don't think, have you even thought about your own beliefs and the statements you have made? It does appear from my readings of you, that you have not put the two together.

So Bruce tell me, how should God deal with wicked man? Because it's clear the way He is doing it now you don't like, and the way He did it in the past you don't like. And if you want to believe that Jesus Christ had a different method, your totally wrong on that.

P.S God's way in the past and today are the same. ;-)

  4. @Edward,
I don't think I was 'bashing' Christianity, PZ Myers said that. I just agree with him. But, what do Christians question? How has Christian thought evolved and changed in the last 400 years? The last 2000 years? Atheists follow reason and critical thought. As new information is acquired, we look at it and evaluate it. The discoveries and advancements from science (critical thinking) are well documented over the last several hundred years. Those changes have been hindered by religious leaders time and time again because they conflict with their interpretation of the Bible.

As far as free will and God, I'm an Atheist and believe we have free will that is limited by societal norms. Only those that believe in God think they get it both ways.
Edward, do you believe in miracles? That God intercedes from time to time to help humans with sickness, accidents, finances, scoring touchdowns? If yes, how does he chose who to help and who to let suffer? Why does he cure a 90 year old woman with cancer but allows children to be raped by Catholic priests in his church?

As far as how Jesus and God mete out justice, from what I know about the OT and the NT, they are completely different. I don't remember hearing about Jesus committing mass killings and commanding his followers to kill those who don't follow his rules to the letterer. If I'm wrong, please show me some examples of Jesus' wrath.

  5. @Bruce,

Well i was working on this post, then i switched tabs came back and my post was gone. I must have clicked on something. :-) Well here i go again.

Your "bashing" Christianity has been in the last several posts. Not just your quote.

    But, what do Christians question?
All things Bruce. I Thessalonians 5:21

Contrary to what you may believe a true Christian will study things out. It's what we are encouraged to do. II Timothy 2:15 You may think we stick our heads in the sand and hum Kumbaya.

How has Christian thought evolved and changed in the last 400 years? The last 2000 years?

400 or 2K years Christianity has not changed. Now i will agree with you that the peoples knowledge of Christianity has changed. Many ministers don't teach people the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They talk more about feelings and love and other mostly useless drivel.

Atheists follow reason and critical thought.
Oh really? I don't see that at all, and your comments don't help any. :-) Bruce as new information is acquired if it goes against the "Atheist" belief system they bury the information or create hoaxes. I am thinking of Archaeoraptor. Nat Geo was told it was a fraud, but published the story anyway, then later put out a little blurb that it was found to be a fake.

Those changes have been hindered by religious leaders time and time again because they conflict with their interpretation of the Bible.
Bruce i am being crazy here and thinking that you posted that thinking you would help reinforce this lie to some visitor that doesn't know any better. And you want to pass off what the Roman Catholic Church did as being the Christians did this. No luck with me sir. The Roman Catholic Church was a wicked institution. However some Christian Scientists you might or might not have heard of these. In no particular order.

Isaac Newton -> "I have a fundamental belief in the Bible as the Word of God, written by men who were inspired. I study the Bible daily."
Francis Bacon (His history sounds like something you would agree with.) "There are two books laid before us to study, to prevent our falling into error; first, the volume of the Scriptures, which reveal the will of God; then the volume of the Creatures, which express His power."

George Washington Carver (I have read and heard on specials that he talked to plants) About the clay paints he had developed he had this to say. "Why should they not be permanent? God made the clay in the hills; they have been there for countless generations, changeless. All I do is prepare what God has made, for uses to which man can put it. It is God's work—not mine."
Louis Pasteur,Blaise Pascal, William Thomson AKA Lord Kelvin,Charles Babbage, etc.

The list goes on. What i do realize is that this is not science against God. It's more of scientist against man and their held beliefs.

I'm an Atheist and believe we have free will that is limited by societal norms

Limited? What? You really want to think that societal norms limit people? Please, sir you are smarter than that. "Showing the police we can do what we want... Showing the rich we do what we want" Granted i would say they are talking under the influence... however this may be their societal norm. Yes no?
It's not even limited to the UK. It's also happening in the U.S. Bruce this is really the Godless society you and others long for. For the simple fact that you or anyone else is not the final authority. You never will be. And neither will the society that you speak of.

Only those that believe in God think they get it both ways.

Can you clarify that? I don't understand what you are trying to convey.

  6. Edward, do you believe in miracles?
Yes i do, however to why God chooses to help some and not others, i don't know why. What i do know is that His ways are not my ways. Nor are my thoughts His thoughts. My thoughts and His are separated by a great expanse. However i do know His way is best. Isaiah 55:9

Paul even questioned it. II Corinthians 12:8-10

children to be raped by Catholic priests in his church?

Bruce man, this is below the belt. :-)
II Corinthians 11:13-15 Hopefully you will be open to learning what a true follower of Christ is like, you already somehow know how to spot the fakes.

As far as how Jesus and God mete out justice, from what I know about the OT and the NT, they are completely different.

    For that read these.
    John 1:1-14
John 8:58 -> i like that one. see Exodus 3:14
    John 10:30
    1 Timothy 3:16
    I John 5:7

If I'm wrong, please show me some examples of Jesus' wrath.

For this please consult these verses.
Matthew 10:34-36; Luke 12:49-53 -> People that choose to follow Jesus Christ, those around will hate them. So much for peace. Jesus will deal with them. ;-)
Matthew 23:13-33 Not so nice huh?
Mark 11:15,16 -> Clearing the temple.
Revelation 19:11-21 That's Jesus Christ on that horse. Birds get a good meal. :-D
John 14:6 -> Jesus Christ just put the exclusivity on getting to the Father, only by Him. All others go to Hell. Period. No negotiation, no redoes. it's all over. See also Matthew 25:41-46

The things Jesus taught are, as far as i can tell, in the OT. Many just miss it all together. They want to emphasize the "love" of Jesus, however Jesus is just telling you again what He said in the OT. And fulfilling the Law

Some may not like the idea of Hell, yet that is the only place for people that want to reject Jesus Christ. It's really what they want, it's what you would want, right Bruce? We have this time to come to terms with the reality that were not as smart and all wise as we would think. Yet some just don't want to humble themselves to confess such a thing. They want to believe that they are the apex of everything. They don't want, need or require a God. So when they die, they get exactly what they want. Now i will admit that if i am wrong i know that you won't ever show up after i'm dead and gone to inform me of it. However the reverse is not the same. For if Christ is not risen from the dead then my life is lived in vain, yet the only satisfaction i can see is that i would never know if that were the case. 1 Corinthians 15:14-22

Bruce talking and reasoning with you and others has pushed me further into researching my faith, and as a result deepening my relationship with Jesus Christ. And all i can say is if this is not the truth, it is the grandest of all lies ever perpetrated in the history of mankind.

  7. Just because someone does something in the name of God...does not mean God told them to do it. Sounds like a demonic spirit was involved here. demons often claim their actions in the name of Jesus Christ to sway undecided souls.

  8. Tom,
Demons? I think it's just a couple of sick people that have no connection to the real world.
    No angels or demons needed.
