Book of Isaiah 4-6 The Fire Devoureth the Stubble

Isaiah 4-6

Man this stuff is getting REALLY monotonous.  When are we going to get back to some of that good old God smiting and war mongering of his chosen people?

Are God's best days behind him?  Are we going to spend the rest of the OT reading 'back in my day, the LORD didn't put up with this shit!'
And cranky old man lines like;

6:5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

Ever forward.Enhanced by Zemanta

  1. @Bruce,

good old God smiting and war mongering of his chosen people?

Wait until you read Jeremiah. You may, i know i did, get to the point where i was like, God please just destroy them already. Which brings up a point, that i have tried to make before.

It seems that you don't like God being patient, you realize how short this book would be if He wasn't. :-) And i'm talking about the whole Bible.

So can i ask Bruce, which way do you want it? God being patient or just at the first infraction destroying everyone. I tried to tell you before this is the way He is. However it seems like you don't like God this way. Now i can be reading your comments wrong, so please correct me if i am. You seem to believe that God just destroyed people at will, and without any warning, now you get vocal about Him not destroying people, and giving them warning.

Now i will agree that God did take some people out really quick. I am presently reminded of Herod in Acts 12:21-23. There are just some people that go to far.

Take comfort tho if you had read my reference in Revelation you will see that the bad guys compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire cam down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

I think that's what you are looking for. No pleading, telling them to repent, being all longsuffering and all that. Just give them some good old fashion butt kicking, flame throwing, smack down. :-) Kill the stinking, rotten, unrepentant, wicked, ungrateful infidels. :-D

Are God's best days behind him?
Are you kidding? How many people you know conquered death, hell and have the keys to prove it? Revelation 1:18 The best is yet to come. It's going to get a whole lot better. :-)

  2. @Edward,
It's not that I don't like God being patient (I actually really don't care), I just find his actions to be inconsistent.

As for the boredom I'm experiencing with the readings, the Bible seems to have lost it's narrative. I liked the reading when we were learning about God's master plan and the 'historical’ evolution of the chosen people. All the philosophical reflection is painful. I may as well be reading Shakespeare! ;-)

One chapter over and you will get a nugget. 7:14 There's more after that as well. Keep looking. ;-)

To be honest with you here, i believe the reason you find God inconsistent is because you don't really know God and how He does things. My personal desire for you and others is that by the time you're done reading the entire Bible you will have a more complete understanding of God and then be able to reflect back on how consistent God has been with man.

As for being bored with the reading, it's really better going over it more than once. And by that i mean the entire Bible. I have been reading things and able to connect them with other events that i wasn't able to from my first time reading the Bible. I know that doesn't help you, however it's made it allot of fun for me. :-)
